Baby photoshoots can be, well, very cliche! So when I met with Jessica and her new baby boy Mason I knew I wanted to do something different than the typical 'baby in a basket' photo. I think that babies have their own personality. They really don't need to be posed because they already have so much expression, even if its just them sleeping.
I also love doing these shoots in the baby's bedroom. This is where they spend most of their time. It's where the special mama moments happen. Memories of baby's first room are important to me.
Baby Mason had A LOT of personality. Jessica finally got him to relax a bit (because a big huge camera in my face probably wouldn't have made me happy as a baby either) and the sweet boy slept. He was a pretty active sleeper, with the 'one eye open' to make sure he didn't miss what was going on. Jessica also said that he always has to have his hands near his face when he sleeps.
With little things like that - that each baby does differently and uniquely - I love capturing who THEY are, no props or fancy stuff. Because really, those are the things (like those baby toes) all mamas want to remember.
